The purpose of this page is to give you an overview of our web site, in the hope that this will assist you in finding
useful information quickly.
GENERAL STRUCTURE
The home page, located at http://www.fbchillsville.org, currently consists of seven sections, excluding Title, photos,
site counter and copyright. The sections are:
•
Local Google search engine
•
Horizontal navigation (menu) bar, with embedded sub-menus
•
Quick links 1 (near top of page)
•
FBC News
•
The Five FBC Growth Commitments
•
Welcome
•
Quick Links 2 (near bottom of page)
Except for the horizontal navigation bar of text links, graphical links are used as much as possible to appeal
especially to web site visitors who are maturing or have already come of age in times driven largely by graphical
interfaces, and also to provide a more visually appealing web site experience for visitors of all ages.
LOCAL GOOGLE SEARCH ENGINE
Enter a search term in the dialog box, then click on the “Search Button” to the right of the box. Example search
terms:
prayer
“prayer wall”
+prayer+wall
The search engine is a local search, meaning that the FBC web site only is searched, by design. Use your browser
back button to return to the Home page after viewing search results.
HORIZONTAL NAVIGATION (MENU) BAR, WITH EMBEDDED SUB-MENUS
The navigation bar changes from time to time, but will appear similar to this on the Home page and most other pages:
Four of the eight buttons are direct links, while the other four are simply titles of sub-menus, which appear when you
hover your mouse over a navigation bar button/title. The navigation bar buttons that are titles of sub-menus are
obvious below because of the sub-menus that appear below the titles. (Although only one sub-menu can be viewed at
a time, all are shown for illustration in the specially created composite graphic below.)
There are no third level menus. Each item in the sub-menus above is a direct link to a web page.
A few example uses of the navigation bar are:
•
Interested in women’s ministries? Click on Ministries/WMU. You may also wish to view Ministries/Sewjourners.
•
Wish to read Pastor Shockley’s latest monthly message? Click on Pastors & Staff/Pastor Michael Shockley.
•
Want to know when the choir next rehearses? Click on Calendar.
•
Like to learn more about the free, monthly family movie night? Click on Take Note.
•
Want to use PayPal to make a gift to to the church? Click on Give to FBC.
•
Wish to see or hear church members give testimonies? Click on Photos & Videos/Testimony Videos.
QUICK LINKS 1 (NEAR TOP OF PAGE)
A few popular links are placed near the top of the home page for quick access. The number is limited to prevent top
of page clutter. In November 2012 the links included:
•
I’m New Here - information for visitors and new members
•
How Can I Be Saved? - see the steps that lead to salvation
•
Sermon Videos and Texts - sermon archived videos and texts of sermons
•
Special detailed activity announcement
•
The Bible on-line
FBC NEWS
Intended to be the most dynamic home page element, this section features church news, upcoming events and
activities, and new and updated web pages. Items typically “age off” after a few days, but links that remain active
can be found elsewhere on the site. For example, at one time the following item appeared in the News section:
UPDATE: 2012-13 Church Servants
This item was deleted from the News section after a week, but the listing of the current Church Servants can still
be accessed by clicking in the navigation bar on Who We Are/Church Servants.
Items that are not church-specific may occasionally be shown in the News section. Examples are severe weather
statements and local blood drive or charitable appeals.
THE FIVE FBC GROWTH COMMITMENTS
To emphasize their importance, the five church growth commitments are listed prominently on the home page. These
growth commitments do not change from year to year, but reflect the permanent acceptance and embrace of God’s
Great Commission to live and spread the spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
WELCOME
The welcome section below the growth commitments includes invitations to worship services, Sunday School, and
Wednesday night activities, with activity times listed.
QUICK LINKS 2 (NEAR BOTTOM OF PAGE)
The second section of quick links shows additional links that warrant home page status without creating clutter
at the top of the home page. These links may change from time to time, but not on a planned basis as is the case
with the FBC NEWS section. In November 2012, this section included:
•
Cancer Resources for the Twin County area
•
Church Map (The Wayfinder) - a map of the entire church interior
•
FBC on Facebook - log in required
•
FBC Rock Solid Youth on Facebook - log in required
•
Feedback - provide feedback to the church on any subject
•
The Prayer Wall
